Super Bowl Sunday: It’s all about the halal meat!
| January 24, 2013 | Posted by Maryam under Grocery/Product Reviews |
It’s Super Bowl Sunday! North America’s biggest sporting event of the year. Football fans call their fantasy league buddies over to the house with the biggest TV and best surround sound and watch a pack of guys in spandex throw around a weird shaped ball. Okay, there is much more to it then that which is why it is one of the most popular sports. I don’t know what it is about this game that brings out the inner caveman in us all. Maybe it’s the sound of helmets colliding and 250 pound men running through each other like bulldozers. MUST…EAT…MEAT!
No Super Bowl Sunday is complete without an array of assorted meat dishes and plenty of smack talking. The spicier and saucier the meat, the better! Check out my meat picks for football’s party of the year.

They’re marinated, they’re spicy and they are meaty! There is no easier way to please a group of carnivorous football fans than a tray of Daddy’s Halal Marinated Ribs ($35 per tray). The owner, Fatema, uses her own special blend of spices with the right balance of sweet & acidic for Toronto’s best ready-to-cook ribs! Just throw the tray in the oven at 350 F for 30 minutes or toss them on a grill or hot pan and sear each side for 6 minutes and serve.
Just in time for Super Bowl, check out her NEW pre-cooked marinated chicken wings. Cooked and ready to eat, these spicy and saucy wings will have your guests licking their fingers clean. For even more convenience, Daddy’s Halal Ribs is also making PRE-COOKED Marinated Ribs too. Be sure to buy that Costco size pack of napkins!

Epicure Selections is known for delicious and convenient cooking. Cut down on the stress of hosting a party by making Pulled Beef Sliders ahead of time in the slow cooker. One of my favourite spices is a twist on the “What’s For Dinner? Pulled Pork Seasoning”. Use this seasoning with your favourite cut of beef roast and serve on slider buns with coleslaw for a delicious bite of sweet, smokey and spicy. The contrast of crunchy sweet coleslaw and the spicy tender pulled beef is a yummy surprise.
Epicure Spicy Pulled Beef Sliders
Ingredients
- 1 Boneless Beef Roast
- 24 Mini Slider buns
- 1 package of coleslaw vegetables
- 1/3 cup of coleslaw dressing
- 1 package of Epicure’s “What’s For Dinner?” Pulled Pork Seasoning (no pork is in this product!)
- 1 cup of Ketchup

- 1/2 cup of brown sugar
- 1/4 cup of water
Directions
- Add ketchup, water, vinegar, brown sugar and package seasoning in slow cooker and combine.

Finally, a delicious halal version of bacon! In my opinion, it’s the best on the market. Smokey beef strips from East Meats West ($3.49/pack). No football party is complete without something wrapped in bacon (or a version of it).
For a delectable salty & sweet bite size appetizer, try scallops wrapped in “fake-on”.
Smokey Beef Strip Wrapped Scallops
Ingredients
- 10-12 Fresh Scallops
- 1-2 Packages of Smokey Beef Strips
- Tooth picks or skewers
Directions
- Dry each scallop well and wrap with the beef strips, use a tooth pick or a skewer to keep the beef snug and place on a baking sheet.
- Bake in oven at 400F until the beef strips are crisp and the scallop is opaque (approx. 15-20 minutes).
Super easy and so tasty they won’t make it past the first quarter so plan a round for later in the game.
East Meats West is located in Mississauga and carries plenty of frozen ready-to-cook & marinated meat. Check out their website for a list of vendors near you.

Super Bowl Sunday is all about meat so it’s only fair we talk about one of the GTA’s finest butcher shops, lucky for us it just happens to be halal. It is a meat lover’s dream. The store itself is incredibly clean with each meat cooler separated to avoid contamination. They carry an array of house made deli meat, fresh cuts of chicken, lamb and beef as well as pre-marinated, ready to cook. Friendly and knowledgable staff will answer any questions you have and cut the meat to your specificiations.
How does a “Shawarma Bar” sound? Pick-up their marinated beef & chicken “Paramount Shawarma” and enjoy all the aromas of spices that you have come to love in their restaurants in the comfort of your own home. Let the football fans have fun building their own sandwiches and plates! Did I mention you can even get their famous Garlic Sauce at Paramount Butcher Shop too? For $4.99, you can bring it home and make your shawarma plates truly authentic. I did the math and for about $5 per person you can pull off this gourmet middle eastern buffet that is special and delicious.
