Halal Foodie Joins IDRF to Help Provide Relief Aid to Syrian Refugees

syrian refugees

Performing umrah recently changed my perspective on things in a very profound way. I am full of life again and feel great alhamdulillah. I’ve grown years in just two short weeks and have a more realistic view of the state of the rest of the world and the Muslim ummah. In other words, I fell off my princess chair. Hard.

I feel shallow to admit that I was scared when I realized there wasn’t a television screen between me and the mother who was suffering from leprosy. As she raised her twisted wrist where a hand once was towards me, I felt a pulling pain in my heart. Her other arm gripped a young child, then three more trailed behind. We gave her money of course and although it did ease some of the pain in my chest, it lingered like her struggles. Ten, twenty or one hundred dollars wouldn’t fix her issues. But constant aid would, caring organizations that focus on growth and development could give her a fighting chance.

In Syria, the winter has been devastating for refugees who are trying to cope with frigid and meek conditions. What can people do here in Canada? We have many organizations that are working hard around the clock to get aid out to those that need it most around the world. The wonderful folks at IDRF have come up with a simple way to make a difference — just eat.

Visit any of these participating restaurants and retails stores and purchase a product or meal as usual. Our partners will donate a proceed of their sales from now until February 28, 2014 directly to IDRF to provide relief aid to syrian refugees.

For every $50 raised, IDRF will send a food or hygiene kit to a family who desperately needs it.

Huge thank you to our participating businesses. Without hesitation, they all said yes to help. The team at Halal Foodie is humbled at the support and proud to be apart of community that cares and works together to give back. May Allah swt ease suffering around the world and reward the brothers and sisters behind this and all other charitable initiatives.
