Afghan restaurants have been popping up left, right and center over the last few years, and we’re not complaining! From yummy naan to tasty kabobs, to everything and anything in between. With your help we’ve come up with a go-to list of the best halal Afghan restaurants in and around GTA.

Bamiyan Kabob, multiple locations across the GTA and beyond
Bamiyan Kabob is one of the best-known Afghan restaurants in the city – most of their meat dishes come accompanied with rice, salad and naan so you really get a full meal + leftovers with every visit. If you’re headed there right after reading this post, don’t forget to get some extra white sauce – it’s just SO good.
Naan & Kabob, 1801 Lawrence Ave E, Scarborough and 30 Bristol Road East, Mississauga
With two locations in the GTA, Naan & Kabob knows how to run a restaurant: beautiful decor, great food and a homely atmosphere. Their mantu, steamed dumplings filled with ground beef and onions, continues to be one of their most popular and well-loved dishes.
Maimana Naan & Kabab Restaurant, 279 Kingston Road East Unit 7, Ajax
If you’re looking for a great bite to eat in the east end, then Maimana is your spot. Located in Ajax, the cozy restaurant features Afghan cuisine made with the freshest and finest of ingredients. The tandoori chicken comes well-recommended, as does the rice and the mantu!
*NEW* Kandahar Kabab, Mississauga and Scarborough locations
When Kandahar Kebab opened in Scarborough, we finally got to try them out after hearing quite a bit of buzz! All the food was delicious and priced well. The best part (besides the food of course) was their impressive prayer facilities including wudhu station.
Kabul Express, 126 Dundas Street East, Toronto
Kabul Express has also made our Best Halal Restaurants in Downtown Toronto list, and we don’t mind adding it again – the food is great, the service is quick and there’s so much to choose from. This restaurant not only serves good Afghan cuisine, but also Indian and Pakistani dishes as well.
Pamier Kabob, 119 Spadina Avenue, Toronto
Located right near the financial district, and in the middle of the fashion district, Pamier Kabob is a lunch-time favourite. The food comes perfectly marinated, the portion sizes are big, and the meals are decently priced compared to all other restaurants in the downtown core. There are 2 other locations in Brampton and Mississauga.
Nowshak Restaurant, #74 – 3175 Rutherford Road, Vaughan
Located near Vaughan Mills, Nowshak Restaurant offers good portion meals for a pretty decent price point. Many tell us that the food here is very authentic and there’s plenty of different dishes to choose from. Notable dishes include the mantu, kabobs and the traditional Qabili Pulao, which is steamed rice with lentils, raisins, carrots.
Baghlan Kabob & Bakery, 32 Rexdale Boulevard, Rexdale
This eatery is located in a strip mall in Rexdale and features some pretty interesting, yet cool, dishes like an Americanized take on the chapli kabob – it’s served between two buns like a hamburger. They also sell their kabobs in wraps, so it makes for a quick lunch. Don’t forget to stop at the bakery counter – baklava, anyone?
Watan Kabob, 55 Matheson Boulevard East, Mississauga
The lamb, the chicken, the beef … according to our readers and reviews, all of it is so good! You might be waiting a little long for your food, but it’s worth it. The portion sizes are huge, which only means you can make two meals out of one, and we’re all about that!
