The Best Halal Indian and Pakistani Restaurants in Toronto was a tough list to gather! Here are some popular picks, chosen by our readers.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise to you that there is a plethora of halal Indian and Pakistani restaurants in the GTA – in fact, there are almost too many. Actually we take that back, you can never have too much butter chicken or biryani!

When halal food first hit the market, it was in the form of Indian and Pakistani cuisine and over the years, the choices have just become better. And the oldies have perfected their dishes so that they become almost legendary.

As usual, let us know in the comments below if your choice didn’t make the list!

In alphabetical order:

Bar B Q Tonite, 35 Dundas St. W, Mississauga
This restaurant seems to pop up all over the world – there’s the famous Pakistani restaurant with the same name in Karachi, and Dubai! They feature the usual butter chicken, biryani, naan, kabobs, and so forth but they’re known for their, you guessed it, barbecue dishes.

Cafe de Khan, 812 Britannia Rd. W, Mississauga AND 6400 Millcreek Drive, Unit# 13, Mississauga
Doesn’t the name itself just capture your interest? This Pakistani restaurant brings the taste of Karachi to the streets of Mississauga, and yes you’ve probably heard that before but in this case, it’s quite true. Cafe de Khan had it’s start in Karachi, Pakistan several years ago before opening shop up in Mississauga. The food of choice? Kebabs!

Cinamon Bistro, 1966 Queen St. E, Toronto
The chef at this hidden gem has cooked for royalty – we’re not kidding, just take a look at their menu when you go in, they take great pride in it! It’s a little out of your way if you’re unfamiliar with the Beaches but is it really ever too far to travel for good food? Didn’t think so.

Lahore Tikka House, 1365 Gerrard St. E, Toronto
For those who have never been (are you living under a rock?!) you’ll need to brace yourself for the fact that the food is served on styrofoam plates, and that it’s also always chaotic in this Toronto favourite. Lahore Tikka House always pops up when talking about the best halal Pakistani restaurants in the city, and that could be why they get away with not using proper dishes!

Pak Centre, 2683 Lawrence Ave. E, Scarborough
It’s the ambience and decor that has customers returning to Pak Centre after their first visit. Pair that with some unique dishes and you’ve got yourself a great dining experience.Their Murgh Mumtaz is a dish that everyone has to try at least once – think stuffed chicken breast with a South Asian twist!

Sheheen Tikka & Kebab House, 747 Don Mills Rd., Toronto
This North York favourite was mentioned a few times when the topic of best Indian/Pakistani restaurants in the city came up. Though the food isn’t extremely spicy, it’s known to be flavourful and aromatic, and sometimes that’s all you need.

Tandoori Time, 9699 Jane St. Vaughan AND 1727 Albion Rd. Etobicoke
The word on the street is that the portions are great and the prices are even better. And when we say word on the street, we mean almost everyone we spoke to told us that it’s really excellent value for your money. Butter chicken, naan, their onion salad … all of it comes highly recommended!

  • Give Makkah restaurant on Danforth and Donlands a try! It’s truly a hidden gem! Like Lahore Tikka House, they serve the food on styrofoam plates BUT the food is to die for good and the staff treats you like family.
My family has been going there for the last 15 years (my husband event proposed to me there- wierd, I know) and their food has always remained consistently good. 🙂

    Love the list btw!!

  • Zauq should be on this list

  • Try Patna Kabab at Pharmacy and Lawrence. Its my favourite Indian/Pakistani restaraunt. Its right up there with the ones on the list!

    • Patna kabab is the worst place. To vist hey only serve. Onions. As salad and no water

  • La Sani Grill in scarborough is amazing – must try! The best Pakistani food though, has to be Shaheen Tikka (and their breakfast/brunch is awesome!)
