D Spot Dessert Cafe and Bistro

Spin Desserts in Scarborough was open less than a year before it underwent a rebranding of sorts, and is now called D Spot Dessert Cafe and Bistro. Still good desserts, food and halal-ness, just a different name. So if you were hooked on their mouth-watering desserts, fear not: you’ll still find what you loved and lots of new items as well.

It’s a clean, cozy atmosphere with ample seating meaning they can accommodate your party of almost any size – be it a date night for two, or a large family celebration of ten. Anyway, because of the rebrand we decided to go check them out, and we weren’t disappointed.

First up was brunch. As you may already know there aren’t that many halal brunch spots in the GTA, so it’s a must-order when we do stumble upon a restaurant with a brunch menu. We tried their Rolo Pancakes, which is exactly what you think it is: pancakes drizzled with caramel and chocolate sauce, topped with mini Rolo chocolates. It might be a little too sweet for some (especially for breakfast), but for those of us with a sweet tooth, it was just right.

The Undercover Nut Waffle was next on our must-try list, and it did not disappoint. The waffle was freshly made and soft, topped with pistachio ice cream, chocolate shavings and whip cream on the side. If you’re South Asian, then you already know that almost every South Asian person (especially the aunties and uncles!) love their pistachio ice cream so this is something they should definitely check out.

We can’t visit a dessert place and not get something super chocolaty and that’s where the Chocolate Lava Cake comes in. Think rich, and moist chocolate cake with a warm, gooey chocolate centre. I need to stop writing about it now because it’s too early for dessert and I’m craving it!

I’ve always loved dessert drinks and try to make them at home quite often, so when we’re out at a dessert spot you can bet I’m ordering one. The Perfect Blend is just that: the perfect blend of caramel and chocolate steeped in milk and topped with whip cream. Of course, then drizzled with more caramel and chocolate sauce. It partners with any dessert really well, but if you’re really not about that sweet life, then you might want to just stick to a dessert drink OR a dessert.

Also, the dessert portions are fairly big and perfect for sharing – one dish is good for at least two. Of course, we won’t judge if you devour one yourself! 😉

Hi all, I just wanted to give my input since I do read these reviews myself and try to see if I should visit these places which are recommended. I’m sorry to say that I was very disappointed when I visited this place. I will start with the positives, it was clean, and modern and has a very similar vibe to a place like Demitri’s. The positives stop there unfortunately. I ordered the lava cake, because I’m a huge chocolate addict, and it felt very factory like, not fresh, I looked at it and I did not want to eat it. The lava cake was served with mountains of whipped cream, and for the love of me I don’t know why. There is a clear message that I got when I went to the D-Spot, its a nice to look at but there isn’t much substance. I think North Americans and specifically Canadians need to stop asking for big portions but instead ask for better quality food, in this case dessert.

The breakdown, if you are looking for a dessert place that has a lot of substance, and tastes great and is home made, dont go here. But if you want big portions of whipped cream out of a can, and an uninspired menu, then this might be the place for you.

I did not comment on the waiters since that changes all the time, but it was not good.

I would NOT recommend going their twice, but go once to see for yourself.

    • Totally disagree with you. All the desserts are super flavourful, awesome. Can’t wait for my next visit to Dspot.

    • Totally disagree with Abdur Rahmans comment here. I have been a regular customer at D Spot for the past 2 years. My friends and I always go here for their Chocolate Lava Cake. Not once was the cake served with a mountain full of whipped cream as per the comment above. The lava cake was served with vanilla ice cream, oreo cookie crumbs and fudge sauce. its unfortunate, you disliked just about everything about the place, but who cares! I give it a 5 out of 5 stars, Looking forward to our visit soon!
