East Meats West Mississauga Introduces Takeout Deli
East Meats West Mississauga is a familiar name in the GTA Muslim community as they are one of the top providers of quality halal deli meats. Even if you have not heard of them, you probably have eaten their meat products at your favourite halal restaurant at one point or another. After being in the business for 16 years primarily as a wholesale provider, this family-run business is now looking to step up their game. Listening to customer demand and feedback at Halal Food Fest TO and Muslim Fest, East Meats West has started to offer a takeout and catering menu.
What does this mean? It means that you can now enjoy freshly prepared hot or cold gourmet deli sandwiches that you have only dreamed about in the past. The sandwiches have so much meat that the somewhat shy carnivore inside of us unleashed and jumped for joy – and pushed all thoughts of salads and greens aside. There is a variety of beef, chicken and deli sandwiches to choose from, with the option of extra sandwich toppings like sauerkraut. We were told that the beef sandwiches are the most the popular.
The Pastrami Sandwich ($7.99) consisted of 200g of smoked brisket meat (compare that to 50g of meat on Subway sandwiches) topped with mustard and mayonnaise and sandwiched between two pieces of marble rye bread and served hot. If the picture does not speak a thousand words, then let’s just say that it was worth the life-long wait for this incredible deli sandwich. The beef was grilled to bring the seasonings to life and to enhance its smoky flavour making it the star of the sandwich.
The Clubhouse Sandwich ($7.99) had a of layer of seasoned turkey meat on top of a of layer smoky beef strips and topped with shredded lettuce, mayonnaise and dressing sandwiched between two pieces of plain white rye bread. This gigantic sandwich required the use of both hands to ensure that the sandwich stayed intact. The turkey had a much lighter taste than the beef, which provided a good balance.
The Smoked Turkey Sandwich ($7.99) had very thinly sliced smoked turkey meat with shredded lettuce, mayonnaise and Italian dressing sandwiched between two pieces of white rye bread. The turkey had a mild flavour and it was very light tasting, and not heavy or greasy at all. If you are not a fan of beef, then this turkey sandwich is a good alternative.
If you are a fan of sandwiches and like deli meats, then East Meats West is your calling. Don’t be caught off guard by the modest storefront; this store is for takeout only and there is no seating. We do recommend that you start eating the sandwiches in your car because they are best when fresh. If you are in a rush, call ahead and place an order for speedy service.
Meat Sources: Chicken is from Madina Poultry, free range turkey is from Heyter’s Farm and beef is from Corsetti Meat Packers and all come from hand slaughtered sources. ** NOTE: meat was checked (verbal assurance) at time of review and can change at anytime – please check meat sources before eating and let us know if there are any discrepancies **
