Fresh East, New Quick Service Chain Opens its First Location in the GTA

Fresh East

“The sandwich shop reinvented” is the perfect tagline for Fresh East, a new quick-serve restaurant by Paramount Fine Foods now open at Erin Mills Town Centre in Mississauga. Fresh local produce, premium quality halal meats, freshly baked breads and homemade sauces are the defining features of Fresh East. It offers North American style sandwiches with a savoury Middle Eastern flare.

Fresh East is equipped with state of the art kitchen equipment and the storefront matches that of any well-recognized North American chain. Everything from customized wrappers, bags, napkins — you can count on Paramount Fine Foods to deliver the total experience. The menu ranges from Make Your Sandwich options, where you can choose everything from the bread to the toppings to the sauces, Fresh East Classic Sandwiches, Sandwich In The Bowl, Salads and Soup, and a Breakfast menu.

We started with Egg ‘n’ Cheese with Macon ($3.49) on a croissant (also available in a 6 inch sub). The warm buttery croissant was used to sandwich an egg, crispy macon, Swiss cheese and our choice of vegetables. We had always seen such sandwiches advertised at non-halal eateries and dreamed of trying them, so this sandwich was truly dream come true. It was a filling and thoroughly satisfying breakfast sandwich and the crispy macon left us grinning.

The Salad In The Bowl is a bowl that has all the ingredients of a sandwich without the bread. It comes in sixteen different options, such as kafta, shish tawouk and roast beef. We got the Chicken Shawarma Bowl ($5.49), which was layered with our choice of vegetables including lettuce, onions, cucumber, peppers, olive, topped with fresh shawarma meat, and topped with our choice of sauces including garlic and tahini. It was the freshest tasting mix of vegetables and chicken we had a long, long time. One of my sisters, who is a on a diet these days, loved it so much that she wanted to hug me for introducing this healthy option to her.

We also tried the 12-inch Chicken Shawarma Sandwich ($8.49). We chose Zaatar bread, Swiss cheese, our toppings, FreshEast Sauce, Tahini and Garlic. The aromatic flavours of the sumac, thyme and oregano on the Zaatar bread transformed what would have been a regular chicken shawarma. We liked how we had the choice to put non-traditional Middle Eastern ingredients such as jalapenos and mushrooms on our sandwich.

The freshness and variety of the produce along with the ability to customize your sandwiches will let your experiment with Middle Eastern Flavours like never before. With affordable prices, great taste and friendly customer service Fresh East is hands down our new favourite go-to place for quick a bite.
