New Jerk Chicken Menu at Toppings in Richmond Hill

Nothing says summer like spicy Jamaican jerk chicken. When I found out that Toppings has introduced some Jerk inspired menu items I immediately wanted to try them out.

Jerk is a style of cooking which involves a dry rub or in some cases even a wet marinade and involves a combination of allspice, scotch bonnet peppers (not to worry haram police, no alcohol is involved, it’s the name of the pepper!) and then some other things to round out the flavour such as garlic, cloves, cinnamon, scallions, etc.

The new Jamaican jerk menu is three items; jerk chicken wings, jerk chicken pizza and a jerk chicken sandwich. The wings are my favourite of the three — really intense flavour, keeps you reaching for more.

I love the fusion of Jamaican flavour with North American favourites. It would be an interesting addition to introduce a special sauce to go with these new items. I remember sampling an intense but cooling mango chutney a few years ago — made with mango, onions garlic and of course, more of that scotch bonnet pepper! I would love to see Toppings’ jerk chicken sandwich topped with something similar.

Kudos to Toppings for always keeping it fresh; this winter they had a steak and cheese theme; sandwich and pizza. Newly introduced jerk chicken is a great summer time addition — keep it up!

I always love each dish from Toppings! Totally awesome!

  • I had the jerk chicken wings and loved them. The perfect amount of spice without being too spicey.

  • Just had the jerk chicken sandwich, to satisfy a jerk chicken craving, and it was great! Perfect spice level and taste. Found the place thanks to this site.
