Sbarro Woodbine Centre Opens with Full Halal Menu
Many people consider pizza as their entire food pyramid. Come on, it has foods from all four food groups in one slice! Pizza is one food that’s beloved, dear and very comforting for most of us. It has been pleasing people of all ages since it was invented centuries ago.
Sbarro is an International brand with franchises throughout the world. In Ontario, many locations are actually fully halal! One such Sbarro location is inside a busy food court in Woodbine Centre. Woodbine Centre is known for its Fantasy Fair, which is Ontario’s largest indoor amusement park, and what best way to treat your kids and family after a fun day than with pizza.
Sbarro offers New York style pizza, stromboli, pastas and salads, and various sides. We loved the short and concise menu, which is ideal for a fast-paced restaurant located in a food court. All the food in the showcases looked fresh, vibrant and delicious. There were many kinds of pizzas ready including (beef) pepperoni, meat lovers, vegetarian, supreme, and cheese.
We ordered a slice of cheese pizza for our little one and a slice of meat lovers pizza for ourselves. Each slice was cut up into two pieces. The first thing we noticed was that the sauce on the pizzas was super fresh. Our little one devoured the cheese pizza, but we did take a few bites beforehand. It had made-from-scratch dough smothered with premium tomato sauce and topped with 100% whole milk mozzarella cheese. It was legit cheese pizza. We wish we could have had a large box of it all for ourselves. The cheese to sauce ratio was perfect and the crust was great.
The meat lovers pizza had sausage, (beef) pepperoni and chicken (all halal). It was a very filling slice of pizza. We thoroughly enjoyed the different meats and were surprised by the generous amount of toppings. This meat lovers slice would definitely satisfy your inner carnivore.
The stromboli came in different varieties, including (beef) pepperoni, sausage, spinach and cheese, and chicken and broccoli. We tried the chicken and broccoli and pepperoni strombolis. We were happy that these turnovers were not greasy at all. The fillings were generous and the freshly baked strombolis were definitely a hit with us.
Lastly, we tried the Baked Ziti, which was a pasta dish. It had ziti noodles mixed with marinara sauce and topped with mozzarella cheese. While the pasta was cooked al dente and one can’t go wrong with tomato sauce and cheese, we found this dish to be a bit bland for our taste. Having said that, our little one enjoyed it as it lacked spice. One can certainly jazz it up with the available crushed red chili peppers available at the Sbarro counter.
Sbarro at Woodbine Centre is a solid food option the next time you visit this mall. The food is prepared fresh daily, it is priced reasonably, has options for the entire family and is bound to please you. But just remember, while a slice of pizza may seem like a balanced meal, moderation is key.
Meat Source: All chicken and beef is sourced from Solmaz which uses hand slaughtered halal chicken. ** NOTE: meat was checked (verbal assurance) at time of review and can change at anytime – please check meat sources before eating and let us know if there are any discrepancies **
