Modah Opens First Department Store for Muslims in Mississauga
Before stepping foot inside, GTA’s first Muslim targeted department store Modah gives you the sense that you’re walking into something chic and upscale, where quality and style meet in a modern way. After walking into their store for the first time this past weekend, Modah met and exceeded those expectations. Brightly lit, clean, excellent flow and energy, great products and friendly service were all very evident within minutes of entering.
Owner Nafiza of Beaudefy and Fatma Nurmohamed, Farkhanda Nawaz and Lindsay Contractor along with their families, wanted to challenge AND change the way Muslims currently shop for their needs. Modest clothing, home decor, beauty, confectionary and soon to open cafe are what you can expect to find — WITHOUT sacrificing shopping experience. Top it off with an all-woman management team, Modah has knocked out some big misconceptions about Islam in general.
“We wanted to provide a platform for like-minded women entrepreneurs to launch their businesses. A setting that offered a higher tier in customer shopping experience, not available in our community today. A unified setting, standardized policies, centralized checkout – eliminating much of the challenges and overhead small business owners’ face when setting up shop. Through all of it, all our brands and customers benefit for a seamless customer experience.” explains Nafiza on her vision for Modah.
Take market trends and pair with location, we think this will be a bustling new hotspot. Dixie Square Plaza is more readily known as “that plaza in Mississauga with all the halal restaurants”. Yes, Modah happens to share the plaza with the GTA’s best; Kara Mia, Bamiyan, Burger Factory, Eat More, Panorama and recently opened, Casablanca. You can literally spend lunch to dinner perusing the shops and eateries.
Modah brands include:
- Be-Licious! soaps, body care, aromatics and gifts
- Beaudefy, modest fashion for ladies
- Blossom & Bean, halal gummy candy and other confectionary
- Eastern Toybox, toys, crafts and home decor
- Henna Sook, henna and accessories
- Kashkha, modest fashion for ladies
- Modesty Collection, modest fashion for ladies
- Muslimah’s United, hijabs and accessories
- Reviving Islamic Art, home decor
- Victorious Me, modest fashion for ladies
They will be adding more brands and features to the roster soon, “in the coming months, our desire is to make Modah the ultimate shopping destination, by incorporating a women only hair and hijab styling salon, and a halal gourmet coffee and tea café to complete our vision of our department store concept we expect to rollout in phase II (November 2014 in sha Allah).”
Congratulations to the team on a fantastic Grand Opening!
